ARTICLE 4. Discussion of Future DDA Projects on Old 28th Street v. Equipment Purchase for Sidewalks

Manager Cravens explained the need for reliable snow removal equipment for the sidewalks in the DDA district. He mentioned that the current equipment couldn’t plow the sidewalks because of the narrowness of the sidewalks. The sidewalks are 7 feet wide on average, while the snow plow blades are wider. With the wider snowplow blades, we end up tearing out grass. Manger Cravens stated that Darrin McSorley, Cascade Charter Township Buildings & Grounds Director has been investigating a few alternatives to remedy the problem. At this time he has found one piece of equipment that would take care of the plowing needs, unfortunately it is expensive. The equipment he found is a sidewalk plow from Bombardier that costs about $67,000.

Members of the DDA expressed concern about this cost and suggested the Buildings & Grounds Department investigate other less costly alternatives if available. One suggestion was to put a plow behind a Jeep or other similar sized vehicle.

Respectfully submitted,
